Test Results 

General information about test results.

I have been referred for a test- when can I expect to get the results?

The time may vary- but the following can be used as a guide:

  • Gastroscopy: Result should be available the same day 
  • Ultrasound scan/ X-ray/ Dexa scans: Result should be available within 10 days 
  • Biopsies: 4 to 6 weeks
  • Blood & Urine Tests: 3 to 4 days 
  • Stool Tests: 4 to 5 days
  • 24 hour BP monitoring: 2 days 
  • Other tests: you will be advised by your clinician as to when the results should be available 

Blood Test Results 

When you attend for a blood test you will be told how long you should expect to wait for the results. Please bear in mind and if you call the surgery for your results please call after 14:00 once sufficient time has elapsed. 

our reception staff are not qualified to comment on results but a member of staff will ring and advise you if there needs to be any follow up after the results are available.

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them. 

How can I obtain the results of my tests?

Hospital Requested Tests 

Patients should phone a consultant's secretary or the department responsible for their test results (if the test was requested by a hospital based clinician). This way because results are not transferred to us immediately. Please be aware that sometimes hospital requested results might not be available until your follow up appointment.   

Maybury Surgery Requested Tests 

Please phone between 11am-4pm when phone lines are less busy

You can phone our reception/admin team for your results. Please be aware that if the results are anything other than 'satisfactory- no action', the reception/admin team will not be able to discuss the results with you. In this case- the reception/admin team will let you know what the test associated actions are (e.g. the clinician has asked that the test is repeated or to arrange a telephone consultation with you.
